Our first ever (and hopefully first annual) Back of the Dragon Spring weekend event. The BOTD is the cornerstone to a larger network of roads in southwest Virginia called the Claw of the Dragon. BOTD is thirty-two miles long, crossing three mountain ranges with over three hundred curves, switchbacks, slaloms, and hairpins. It is a limited access road with spectacular views.
We’ll meet in Warrenton VA on Friday, March 28th for the long drive to Wytheville VA, stopping at Devil’s Backbone Brewery for lunch. The next morning we’ll drive the famed Back of the Dragon to the BOTD Gift Shop, Brewery and Pizza in Tazewell VA for shopping, photo ops and to collect our commemorative t-shirts.
After lunch at the BOTD Brewery/Pizza, the afternoon is free to drive other portions of “the Claw” or explore the surrounding area.
This is an FCA-MAR members-only event! Cost is $800pp, or $1100 per couple. This includes accommodations, all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), commemorative t-shirt and photographer.
We will be using RoadStr as our primary route navigation tool. If you haven’t used it before, visit our RoadStr page for more information. Download the app and set up an account. A link will be provided for all routes during the weekend. As a backup, a Google Maps link will be provided as well as hardcopy driving instructions.
